Don’t Tell Me, SHOW ME!

Our rural community is confident in our business development program. With minimal infrastructure, a small population, and a strong dependency on neighboring communities to provide services and workforce, we have made great progress over several decades since we started our Economic Development efforts.

Business Parks at Corydon and Lanesville

Our Business Parks at Corydon and Lanesville did not start themselves. Significant volunteer efforts, public-private partnerships, and great risks were taken to make Harrison County competitive in business development.

In 1997, we purchased the former site of the Golden Valley Microwave Foods, which was formally the Bube Popcorn Company, and the Old Capital Popcorn Company. The photos show the agricultural complex that was on our 84 acre industrial park. The grain bin facility and the buildings were leased to various companies and farmers for several years, but the property was served by utilities and had more potential. Today, the property is occupied by several businesses that now employ more than 200 workers and have invested tens of millions of dollars.

Lanesville

At Lanesville, the outstanding location only 12 miles from Louisville was a soybean field. Utilities had to be extended to the north side of I-64. This was completed in 2014 to accommodate Areva, a small Pharmaceutical Distribution company. Since then, the County, Harrison REMC, and the EDC has completed a major roadway with utilities in place to serve the Lanesville Business Park. Now, more than 50 people are employed there and the prospect of hundreds more coming to the Lanesville Business Park is imminent.
